Whether an early morning spent stalking deer as the sun rises, or a full-blown 300 bird driven shoot for eight guns, we offer a range of shooting excursions to dove-tail with your riding holiday.
For the non-riding members of your party, a day’s shooting can be a brilliant way to get a first-hand experience of the English sporting tradition without having to go anywhere near a horse!
For the all-rounder, a driven partridge or pheasant shoot is wonderful complement to a foxhunting adventure.
We work closely with one of the best shoots in the South West of England – Caerhays Castle in Cornwall. Their scenic estate offers a range of classic drives to suit every ability and, as you’d expect from a Blackthorn & Brook partner, their hospitality is second to none.
In addition to world-class bird-shooting, Caerhays is an atmospheric place. On arrival a winding lane takes you past the estate’s own beach which is a smuggler’s bay sort of place. As you turn through the majestic gates the Castle sits nestled in the folded hills where its superb gardens meet deciduous woodland.
For the truly adventurous you can arrive along the Cornish Coast by helicopter.
The driven shooting season complements the hunting season nicely, with the majority of days falling between late October and early February. Days do book up very fast – so if you want to build a shoot into your trip it’s best to start planning around a year in advance.
